Big Island Dentistry offers the following services to help keep your smile healthy and bright.

Our Services

  • Routine Dental Exams & Cleanings

A healthy mouth is a happy mouth. Routine dental check-ups and cleanings help identify problems before they cause pain and keeps your smile brilliant.

  • Deep Dental Cleanings

If you haven’t been to the dentist in a while, we’re here to help. Built up plaque and tartar can lead to the potential for periodontal disease, or swelling of the gums and recession of the bone around the teeth. Deep cleanings, also called scaling and root planing, can help treat the disease and bring back a healthy smile.

  • Teeth Whitening

If you’re up to date on your exams and cleanings but still feel like you’d like a brighter, whiter smile, we can help. Our office offers at home whitening trays and gel.

  • Resin Fillings

Big Island Dentistry places resin, or composite, fillings only. These restorations can often be placed more conservatively and more closely match the natural shade of your teeth.

  • Dental Implants

Dental Implants are one of the top choices to replace a missing tooth. An implant consists of a titanium peg that is placed into the bone and a crown that is screwed or cemented on top, giving appearance and function similar to your natural tooth. In areas where multiple teeth are missing, several implants could be used to bridge the edentulous space.

  • Crowns

If your tooth is weakened due to a large fillng or suffers a fracture, a crown is a great option. Think of a crown as a helmet for your tooth- a full protective cover to prevent future damage. Big Island Dentistry offers ceramic and gold crowns.

  • Bridges (Fixed Partial Dentures)

A bridge (or fixed partial denture) is an option to replace missing teeth. The bridge consists of multiple crowns fused together, supported by the adjacent natural teeth. The bridge is permanently cemented in place and functions similarly to your natural teeth. Bridges act as an alternative treatment to implants or are a great option if the teeth on either side of the missing tooth are compromised.

  • Removable Partial Dentures

If you are missing teeth, dentures may be a great option for replacement. Dentures are removable dental appliances that aim to replace missing teeth and restore function. Removable partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. Partial dentures are made with a metal or acrylic base with acrylic teeth. The process usually takes several appointments and requires a consult with one of our dentists before starting.

  • Complete Dentures

If you are missing teeth, dentures may be a great option for replacement. Dentures are removable dental appliances that aim to replace missing teeth and restore function. Complete dentures replace the entire dentition. The process usually takes several appointments and requires a consult with one of our dentists before starting. Complete dentures are customized to create a comfortable bite and function, but an adjustment period is often necessary.

  • Emergency Exams

Dental pain can creep up on you when you least expect it. At Big Island Dentistry, we try our best to see you in a timely manner to diagnose the source of your pain. Whether your tooth has a cavity, a fracture, or an issue involving the nerve of the tooth, our dental experts can guide you to the best treatment options.

  • Tooth Extractions

Your dentist will try their best to save your existing teeth, but sometimes the damage is too severe and the tooth cannot be predictably restored. In this case, a dental extraction is indicated. Our team will do their best to make the experience as gentle and comfortable as possible. If the extraction is deemed too complex, we will refer you to one of Hilo’s local oral surgeons.

  • Root Canals

When the nerve of a tooth is traumatized from a cavity or fracture, the nerve can become infected, resulting in tooth pain. If the tooth can be saved, a root canal is the best course of action to keep your natural tooth. Our providers can perform a simple exam to determine if a root canal is needed. Big Island Dentistry works closely with our local endodontists (root canal specialists) to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
